A
translator must understand linguistic concepts and cultural constraints when
translating a text. The research aims to investigate the relationship between
translation techniques and translation quality assessment on Let's Read
Digital Library Children's Books. This research was carried out using
qualitative methods. The data was the documentation of the stories in Let's
Read Digital Library Children's Book. Documentation was used to obtain the
data. There were 5 stories with distinctive titles that consisted of 121
sentences. Then these data were analyzed through content analysis. The results revealed that ten translation techniques
namely literal, addition, modulation, reduction, calque, transposition,
description, reformulation, compensation, and borrowing found 124
times and the percentage was 99.9%. The highest percentage of translation
techniques was literal translation which was 53 times (42.7%). Meanwhile, the
translation techniques that got the lowest percentage were description,
reformulation, compensation, and borrowing. Each of those techniques was
applied once with a frequency of percentage 0.8. The
source text was accurately transferred.
90 sentences (74.4%) out of 121 were also transformed into the target
text. The results of the translated texts of the Let's Read Digital Library
children's book were relevant and accepted by young English learners. 100
sentences (82.6%) out of 121 sentences were acceptable. The target text was
readable for children as young learners of English. 101 sentences (83.5%) out of 121 in the
target text were understandable and easy to read. The
findings show that there are 10 translation techniques for transferring the
text. Most of the text can be translated well and the results of the text are
acceptable and understandable for young English learners. |
